I made my first ever trip to Tasmania on 15th-16th January; a very quick visit in an attempt to find Nesoxenica leprea on the slopes of Mount Wellington. I saw a couple flying slowly around but they never settled for a moment, so I couldn’t get any photos.
However, I was able to get shots of 3 new subspecies, including the Neolucia hobartensis hobartensis pictured above :
- New subspecies : Neolucia hobartensis hobartensis (Montane Heath-Blue)
- New subspecies : Hesperilla donnysa aurantia (Varied Sedge-skipper)
- New subspecies : Heteronympha merope salazar (Common Brown)
I also added some photos from Bell and Blackheath in the NSW Blue Mountains :
- Hypochrysops ignitus (Fiery Jewel) – the first time I’ve seen this species in NSW
- Eirmocides consimilis (Dark Pencilled Blue)
- Hesperilla idothea (Flame Sedge-skipper)
