Jalmenus pseudictinus (Macqueen’s Hairstreak)

Other Common Name

Pseudictinus Blue

Notes

Bob Miller and I saw a couple of colonies of this species around Herberton. The butterflies were mostly courting and breeding on low Acacias, though I did see a couple that appeared to be hilltopping, as they seemed to be defending spots on a taller shrub right at the top of a hill. The females are generally smaller than the males, and one of the males was a very small (and battered) runt. I got a couple of photos of him attempting to court a very fresh female, but she didn’t seem very impressed and he was unsuccessful.
