Elodina queenslandica (Glistening Pearl-white)

Other Common Names

Cape York Pearl-white, Kuranda Pearl-white, Queensland Pearl-white

Notes

There were several of these butterflies at the side of the road near the Edmonton boat ramp in April 2011; they were flying around the Capparis plants and feeding from flowers in the undergrowth.
The ID was made easier by the fact that one of the butterflies happened to take off as I tried to get a photo, with the result that the upperside can be seen almost entirely, if somewhat blurred. This was very fortunate, as I didn’t see any of them sit with their wings open.

I saw this species again September 2012, in a rainforest clearing along the Douglad Track on the way up to Glacier Rock.  My most recent encounter was along the Clohesy River Road, again in a rainforest clearing where the queenslandica were amongst a number of species feeding from flowers.
