Notes
This was another species I expected to bump into much earlier than I actually did. I eventually got photos of it in John Olive’s garden in April 2011. Most of the shots are of a newly-emerged female, whose wings hadn’t fully pumped up at first. There were a couple more adults sitting up in a nearby tree, though they were a bit far away for my macro lens. I also saw one or two adults the following day, but was busy trying to get shots of Rapala varuna at the time.
I’ve never seen a lot of these butterflies around Cairns, despite my many visits there, and on many trips I didn’t see it lycaenoides at all. I did see several of them on my only visit to Townsville, and I also got shots of this species in Darwin.
