Argynnina cyrila (Forest Brown)
Other Common Names
Cyril’s Brown, Forest Xenica
Notes
The first time I saw this species was on a hilltop near Helensburgh. There were two males there – they flew extremely rapidly, and then settled high up in the trees; unfortunately too high for me to get any useable photos.
Later the same month I saw some females near Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. They fluttered around close to the ground, and after a few failed attempts I was able to get photos of one or two of them. I’ve occasionally seen females along paths in the bushland, but most of my encounters have been with hilltopping males. They’re generally a bit difficult to photograph, though at Bell in October 2019 I came across one who was very cooperative and happy to pose for photos.
